Cedar deck with pergola

A client with a very small home wanted to create a new living space for his young family and for entertaining friends. We decided on a large deck that would be both safe for his toddlers and warm and aesthetic for friends and family. The deck runs the entire length of the house ( 30 ft X 12 ft) and is constructed of western red cedar. A pergola covers a third of the deck to provide respite from the hot summer sun. To enhance the beauty of the warm red cedar we incorporated black anidized ballisters on the railings and staircases. To avoid a boxy appearance the deck has a two foot cantilever overhang and the under carriage is completely boarded to give it a very tidy appearance.
